Two of the most important international corporations of the aviation industry are based in Hamburg: Airbus and Lufthansa Technik. This is one of the reasons why Hamburg’s aviation industry in general has excellent contacts to other regions with a strong aeronautical presence worldwide.

In 2004 Hamburg representatives signed a declaration of cooperation with their French counterparts from the regions of Midi-Pyrénées and Aquitaine. Thus a broad network was established. A close working relationship to the "Central Gulf Coast Aerospace Alliance", based in the US federal states of Mississippi and Alabama, has been arranged.

Representing Hamburg based small and medium sized enterprises the Hanse-Aerospace association has agreed to cooperate with several European suppliers associations, namely: the Netherlands Aerospace Group (NAG), the British North West Aerospace Alliance (NWAA) and the Farnborough Aerospace Alliance.

Last but not least the regional aviation industry has established an extensive international network in the field of Research and Development.
